Conil and its surroundings offer countless possibilities for outdoor activities essentially all-year-round. To name but a few examples, windsurfing, kite-surfing, surfing, horseback riding, golf, tennis,mountain-biking, hiking, beach running, diving and fishing are on the menu for active holiday makers.

The area stretching from Conil towards Tarifa (windsurfing capital of Europe) are known for perfect wind- and kitesurfing conditions with some kitesurfing schools being located also in Conil. The town as well as neighbouring villages (mentionworthy are El Palmar, claimed to be one of the most renowned surfing beaches in Spain or former hippie colony Canos de Meca) boast also outstanding conditions and infrastructure for surfing all year-round. The conditions are suitable for all skill levels, with spring/summer being ideal especially for beginners/improvers and winter months for improver/advanced surfers. For illustration, check out some links to (kite)surf schools in case you want to get a piece of action and ride some ‘greeners’: Total Kitesurf, Surf School Conil, McKite, Surf School Spain, Nomadsurfers, Trafalgar Surf, United Surf Camps. We have tried Trafalgar Surf and it proved to be a good pick – Ramón and Laura were very friendly and professional and seem to have a great passion for what they do. You can either sign up for surfing classes with an instructor or just rent a board and wetsuit (for about 15EUR/2hrs). Ramón will also readily advise you on the surfing forecast upon request. If you don´t feel like getting washed out by the waves of Atlantic, but still want to go for some wind&surf, how about exploring the Wind Karting in the nearby El Palmar?

Golf is vastly popular in Andalucia and the moderate climate of Costa de la Luz makes the area an unrivaled golf destination. There are five golf courses within 20 minutes drive from Conil, suitable for golfers of all skill levels, namely Novo Sancti Petri, Montenmedio, Campano, Lomas de Sancti Petri and Melia. Novo Sancti Petri golf course (designed by Severiano Ballesteros) with its sea views and 54 holes is one of the biggest and best equipped golf resorts in Europe.

Language schools

One way to get acquainted with the local culture and language would also be to learn Spanish in one of the two language schools situated in Conil, Academia Atlantika and Academia Andaluza.

If you are looking for a combination of physical and spiritual exercise on your holidays in Conil, just get in touch with Laura from Trafalgar Surf giving yoga classes three times a week (outside winter period).

In case you want to explore Conil and its surroundings on two wheels, you can rent a bike from a number of providers such as Conil Rent (also renting scooters), Camaleon Sports  or Casa Andaluza. Camaleon Sports also offers wide range of cycling tours with a guide as well as kayaking adventure in the Bay of Cadiz. Moreover, the Local Tourist Board organises rural cycling excursions for a symbolic fee. However, we advise you to double check the availability of the tours, their duration and itinerary with the local tourist office (situated at Calle Carretera 1), since the information we found on the web was slightly confusing and contraditory.

Horse riding

Do you feel like taking a ride on a horseback through the pine forests of Andalucian countryside or galloping on the sandy beaches of Costa de la Luz off-season? Then check out Picadero Pacheco, Picadero Fuente del Gall, Riding Vacations.
